Wayne County Treasurer Donna Masterson reports that over 71% of Wayne County Property Taxes have been now collected. The total amount collected to date is $14,159,379.95. Total taxes due for collection equal $20,055,049.66. The second tax due date is scheduled for December 9th, with Certified Letters to be sent on January 6, 2023. The annual Tax Sale will be held on February 8, 2023, with the Sealed Bid Auction to be held on December 16, 2023. Friends of the Fairfield Public Library will conduct their semi-annual bake sale today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the library on the corner at 300 SE Second Street. During the bake sale, there will also be hundreds of books available for $1 each, according to Librarian Michelle Conard. Brodey Murbarger, 26, was found guilty of first degree murder on Thursday after the jury deliberated for only an hour. Murbarger was accused in the 2014 disappearance and killing of 15-year-old Megan Nichols. FBI investigator William O'Sullivan testified Wednesday about the more than 7,000 text messages exchanged between Murbarger and Nichols between December 2013 and February 2014. O'Sullivan said the messages at first were romantic and sexual in nature and included several references to the couple planning a runaway in mid-2014. O'Sullivan says that in February 2014 the messages reflected a more tumultuous relationship, with Murbarger at one point calling Nichols 'annoying.' The defense only called Murbarger's father Jayson Murbarger to the stand, as well as the defendant himself to testify.
