good evening, i m mehdi hasan. we begin tonight in florida. land of endless sunshine, citrus fruit and senior living. welcome to the villages. the florida retirement community is so big it s the same size as the city of gainesville, florida, just off the interstate. also its biggest waco texas and the village is a big deal politically as well. it s a regular stop on the campaign trail for right-wing republicans. donald trump spoke to supporters there in the final stretch before election day. he signed an executive order on medicare there in 2019. while matt gates and marjorie taylor greene took their traveling gave a gifts act there in 2021. when ron desantis said he was stripping disney of his self governing power in the state when he sought to control higher education and when he briefed people on his coronavirus response in 2020, he did it all from, you guessed it, the villages. if something major and conservative politics is happening in florida, and chances are it s happ
in the senate. they re statewide candidate quality having to do with the l come. that s pretty remarkable to hear from the republican senate leader. not exactly exerting a lot of confidence. let s talk a little bit about those gop candidates, almost all of whom were handpicked by donald trump, and almost all of more floundering. there is, of course, arizona republican oblique masters who was endorsed by trump and he has pushed great replacement conspiracies and claimed that black people are to blame for america s gun violence problem. supery cyst believes, i might add. no surprise that masters is running eight points behind kelly with his opponent pushing racist views, he might be on the path to the smooth reelection. and then there s republican herschel walker down in georgia. herschel walker could barely string a sentence together most times. he has refused to debate democratic senator raphael warnock, and you can understand why when you see his long list of gaps, which
they re willing to carry a protest sign for a day. with us now to talk about this, mark, senior national political reporter for nbc news digital. nbc news washington correspondent and moderator of washington week on pbs who is a professor at the cardell school of law. we ll have more on the polling in a moment. mark, what else did the judge say in his order a short time ago? for me, what really stood out is this was mentioned in court on friday when i was there, but the judge specifically mentioned, i m going to try to read it from the ruling that he said given the public notoriety and controversy about the search, it s unlikely that witnesses who aren t expressly named in the affidavit would be quickly and identified broadly over social media and other communications channels and that could lead to them being harassed and intimidated. the judges are putting a fine point, clear exclamation point on an argument the governor raised which is look, people can really be harass
