Kay County Healthy Living Coalition to host public awareness and education event on impaired driving

The Kay County Healthy Living Coalition is gearing up to host an upcoming free speaking event to highlight the dangers of drunk, drugged, and distracted impaired driving featuring Candace Lightner, founder of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and founder and president of the We Save Lives organization. Kay County, like many counties across the state and country, grapples with the ongoing issue of impaired driving. According to the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office, Kay County is the 9th highest in the state of Oklahoma for alcohol related car crashes. In 2019, there were 53 alcohol related car crashes in Kay County, with four of them involving drivers under 21. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention a total of 1,864 people were killed in crashes involving an alcoholimpaired driver in Oklahoma from 2009-2018.
