This week Bobbi Conner talks with Dr. Marvella Ford about a statewide project to increase HPV vaccination in children in underserved communities of South Carolina. Dr. Ford is a Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences and she’s the Associate Director of Population Sciences and Cancer Disparities at Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC.
Twelve faculty members at The University of New Mexico have been selected for the 2022 Women in STEM awards. Award recipients will look at patterns of cancer disparities in New Mexico, consider an interdisciplinary lens for algorithmic justice, examine.
Dr. Vida Henderson. Public health researcher Dr. Henderson focuses on preventive health services utilization as well as cancer prevention and early detection, particularly in underserved populations and high-risk communities. An expert in racial and gender health inequities; minority health; women’s health; health communication and community-engaged research, her goal is to improve gender and racial health inequities by exploring multi-level associations between socio-economic status, health literacy, structural bias and other social determinants of health, and physical and mental health as well as behavioral outcomes.
cancer screening with colonoscopies and mammograms and what have you. the percentage of patients that didn t receive those important screening was huge. so i think that we are going to have a 10% increase in deaths from cancer over the next few years. wow. i hope that s not true but clearly the pandemic took us down a very bad road here. it also cancer disparities have been hugely exacerbated by the pandemic. and at dana fabber i want you to know we are absolutelily committed to addressing this disparity and looking forward to working with the president and his team on this effort. our own chief officer was in attendance at the white house today and we are excited to share our experience and our neighbor with the president and his staff as they move forward
