Washington has OK d a plan to allow Navy SEALS to train in an estimated 16-17 state parks. State officials decline to say which parks. Parkgoers are worried about safety and peace of mind at their favorite seaside getaways.

Navy SEALs have gotten the go-ahead to do clandestine training in more than a dozen Washington state parks. John Ryan of member station KUOW finds, though, that many parkgoers say war games and recreation just don t mix.
Airbnb has the fancy treehouses, Insta-ready A-frames, and backyard hot tubs, sure. But few private vacation homes are as cheapâand as close to our stunning public landsâas state park rentals. More than 20 Washington parks and 30 Oregon ones offer overnight, roofed cabins and yurts, a kind of middle ground between camping and a condo. Most cost less than $100 per night. Many of Washington s are currently available to rent, while Oregon last week widened their reservation window to six months in advance. There s something comfortingly rustic about a state park cabin, with nary a trendy throw pillow or Live Laugh Love poster in sight; don t sleep on these places to sleep.

The Navy is seeking a permit to conduct special operations training exercises in 28 Washington State Parks, despite concerns from park users over the “creepiness” of the proposal.
The Navy plans to conduct five types of special operations training in Washington parks day or night for up to five years. Types of training include:
Insertion and extraction training where trainees might approach or depart an area using submersible craft or watercraft.
Combat swimming or diver and swimmer training where trainees would be confined to the ocean or inland water areas.
