There was little drama in last Thursday’s conference match-up between the North Callaway Thunderbirds and the Louisiana Bulldogs, as the Callaway girls successfully defended their home court, soaring to a 59-8 Senior Night victory. Callaway opened up with an 18-0 lead after the first quarter and they held Louisiana to only three first-half points.
All four Callaway seniors - Makenna Allen, Trinity Brush, Taylor Head and Hayley Kimbley - started and each one scored for Senior Night. Allen had 10 points and added 5 steals; Brush had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
It’s good to be home.
That was evidenced as the North Callaway Thunderbirds hosted Van-Far Tuesday night. It was Callaway’s first home game and the T-Birds didn’t disappoint their fans with an impressive 80-50 win, despite big numbers from the Indians’ Nikos Connaway.
“It was nice to get back on the winning track,” said coach Matt Miller.
With COVID-19 always in the shadows, Callaway opted to celebrate Senior Night, which is normally the last home game of the season.
“All four of our seniors played a great game,” Miller said.
After trailing 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, Callaway caught fire and steamrolled to the commanding win.

Shooting went cold as the North Callaway boys fell 57-49 in consolation semifinal play Thursday night in the Centralia Tournament. After shooting over 50 percent in previous season contests, the Thunderbirds were 20-for-56 from the field against No. 5 seed, Sturgeon. Callaway also struggled from behind the arc, hitting 4-for-17 from three-point range.
Cody Cash led Callawy with 16 points and 4 steals, Matthew Weber had 10 points; Noah Scrogum had 6 points and 10 rebounds, continuing his streak of double-digit rebounding.
Sturgeon had four players in double-digit scoring, led by Logan Flaspohler. The win improved Sturgeon to 1-2.
