Banks borrow over Rs 1 lakh cr via MSF on January 10 as liquidity turns tight

Currently, liquidity in the banking system is in deficit of around Rs 1.63 lakh crore. Borrowing via MSF is expected to remain high for some time to come because liquidity will remain tight.

Liquidity deficit narrows sharply in the new year

Money market experts are divided over liquidity conditions in the January-March quarter. While some believe that liquidity is likely to improve due to the government’s pre-budget spending, others expect conditions to remain tight till February-end, due to a seasonal uptick in currency leakage.
