"We're talking of Eastern Visayas and Mindanao, even Central Visayas and northern Mindanao, are having an improved weather," Benison Estareja, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in a briefing. Estareja said PAGASA is now monitoring most of Palawan, which is experiencing heavy rains due to Odette. Also affected are Western Visayas and the rest of southern Luzon, he added. For the last 24 hours, the typhoon has already made landfalls over Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte; Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands; Liloan, Southern Leyte; Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte; Pres. Carlos P. In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said "Odette" was estimated at 485 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of 130 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
