Center for Biological Diversity: SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has banned new mining for 50 years on 2,841 acres in the San Bernardino National Forest to protect critical habitat for four threatened and endangered plant species.
"Our ongoing exploration of garden ideas intersects today with these concepts: fall planting season, lawn replacement, drought tolerance and native plants," writes Tom Karwin. "These thoughts come together in a timely event this weekend: the fall plant sale of the Santa Cruz County Chapter of the California Native Plant Society."
Center for Biological Diversity: SAN JOSE, Calif. The California Fish and Game Commission voted today to permanently protect Inyo rock daisies as a threatened species under the California Endangered Species Act.
Lassics lupine, a small wildflower that grows in only two areas of northern California will be listed under the Endangered Species Act on Thursday. Those who’ve studied the flower say this listing is well needed and the species needs action to save it from extinction.
