The Calcutta High Court has issued 'rule nisi' against the West Bengal State Election Commission (SEC) on petitions accusing it of contempt of court over its conduct during the panchayat polls.
Justice Sinha stated that only advocates representing the parties involved would be permitted in the courtroom and said that the Director of Enforcement Directorate (ED) could join the hearing virtually.
"If the elected reserved category candidate is not allowed the benefit of reservation, then the reservation policy will be frustrated," the Calcutta High Court said.
The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday said that it cannot "gag" media reports concerning TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and his wife, Rujira Banerjee, even though many of such reports were outrightly defamatory.
