A Chinese company is buying from and investing in a rare earth project in the N.W.T. which, for years, had been marketed as a way for Canada to reduce its reliance on China for a material that’s crucial in types of low-carbon technology.
MLAs vying to become the N.W.T.'s next premier will deliver their pitch in a 20 minute speech on Thursday. On Dec. 7, MLAs will have the chance to ask premier candidates two questions before casting their vote. The Speaker and cabinet is also elected on Dec. 7.
Lesa Semmler, who easily won re-election on Tuesday as MLA for Inuvik Twin Lakes, said she's thinking about making a bid for the premiership. If she does, she'll be competing against at least one other person: R.J. Simpson.
