Former Bóthar charity boss stole money over 21 year period judge says

David, Moloney, the former CEO of the charity Bóthar, stole significant quantities of cash donated to the charity to fund his lifestyle over a 21-year period, the High Court has heard.
Mr Moloney, in a sworn statement to the court, says he that he was generous with the cash which he spent on things such as family holidays, on his friends, but never lodged the monies in the bank nor has he kept any of the cash taken.
He also claims that much of what was misappropriated was paid to others, including the late Bóthar founder Peter Ireton, and says that his wife Olive did not knowingly benefit from the money he took and was never given any of the cash he took.
Documents, computers, and other material from the office in England of one of the founders of the Limerick-based charity, Bóthar, are to be examined by the gardaÃ, The Irish Times has learned.
Billy Kelly, a former journalist with the Limerick Leader, set up an English charity, Msaada, after he moved to England around 2003.
Financial transactions between Msaada and Bother form part of an ongoing investigation by the serious economic crime unit of An Garda SÃochána into the misappropriation of funds at Bóthar.
Mr Kelly ran Msaada from his home in Gillingham with the charity being focused on delivering farming livestock and other assistance to poor families in Rwanda.
