Calvary Baptist Church final free food box giveaway

May 19, 2021 Burlington, Ia-  A Burlington Church will, for the final time, be giving away free food boxes to the community. This weekend, Calvary Baptist Church will once again be receiving upwards of 1,200 food boxes from the USDA’s “Farmers to Families Program” designated for Des Moines County. This will be the final time the food distribution will take place due to the program coming to a close at the end of the month.  Calvary Baptist will once again be distributing the free boxes of food to the community on Saturday, May 22nd, 2021, from 8 AM to Noon, or until all the boxes are gone.  This is being done on a first come first serve basis.

OBITUARY: Vera Kay Peck

Apr 24, 2021 11:47 AM Vera Kay Peck, 72, of Burlington Township, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Burlington Church of God, with Pastor David Rails officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Burlington Church of God, just prior to the funeral. Kay was born January 30, 1949 in Marshall, Michigan to LesLeigh K. and Marge L. Freer. She grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall Schools in 1969. Upon graduation she went to a special school to learn to read and write for her dyslexia. She worked six months at the Regional Center (State Home) in Coldwater Michigan, where she received training in nursing care and then worked 26 years at Maple Lawn Care Facility in Coldwater, Michigan.
