Saturday, April 24, 2021 Local law enforcement seeking public assistance on solving cases Crime is on the upswing since the weather is warming, and local law enforcement officials are asking for the public’s help in solving some of the misdeeds taking place in the community. In Monett, counterfeit bills are once again circulating, with $100 denominations being passed most often. According to Det. Melissa Phillips, with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, a bogus $100 bill was also passed at Casey’s General Store in Miller. “Thefts and burglaries have really picked up in the last few days,” Phillips said. “Catalytic converter thefts are up again. We have a suspect and his vehicle on video at a church in Mt. Vernon. We also have a guy who is stealing vehicles, who is connected to similar events in Strafford. He has hit the old Miller School off Hwy. UU twice. We ran the plate on the suspect vehicle, and it came back as stolen from out of Strafford.

Monett redeems Aurora loss The Monett girls soccer team avenged an early-season loss to Aurora this week, defeating the Lady Houn’ Dawgs at Monett South Park on Tuesday, 2-1. Deisy Mejia and Sydney Parrigon scored the goals for Monett, both unassisted. Goalkeeper Ruby Rodriguez produced 11 saves on the day. The win avenged the 3-0 loss to Aurora in the Cassville Kickoff Classic. Monett is back in action on Monday, hosting McAuley Catholic at Burl Fowler Stadium at 4:30 p.m. Lady Eagles bag wins over Stockton, Miller The Pierce City softball team (7-1) earned a 7-3 win over Strafford on Tuesday, putting up 13 hits in the contest after pulling away with a 3-run sixth inning. Mollie Beeson was on the mound for the Lady Eagles, going all 7 innings and striking out 8. Beeson and Jillian Mack led in RBI with 2 apiece. Trinity Witt added 2 hits for Pierce City.
