TOWN OF BUENA VISTA, COLORADO ORDINANCE NO. 07 (SERIES OF 2021)

ORDINANCE NO. 07 (SERIES OF 2021) AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE VII OF CHAPTER 2 AND SECTION 18-142 OF THE BUENA VISTA MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees desires to amend the Buena Vista Municipal Code to reflect the change from the Town s use of a volunteer fire department to the Town s use of professional fire protection services by agreement with the Chaffee County Fire Protection District. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF BUENA VISTA, COLORADO, THAT: Section 1. Article VII of Chapter 2 of the Buena Vista Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:

Chaffee Fire board approves deal to take over BV Fire duties

The Buena Vista board of trustees last Monday, then the Chaffee County Fire Protection District board of directors on the following Wednesday voted to approve an intergovernmental agreement between the two entities that makes CCFPD âthe exclusive jurisdiction having authority to interpret and enforce the fire code adopted by the town within the townâs boundaries.â The IGA went into effect Thursday, CCFPD chief Robert Bertram said, meaning that the town has now divested from the Buena Vista Fire Department as aÂ separate entity responding to fire calls. âThe town has entertained this concept in the past. The time was not right. With the growth we are experiencing and to maintain theÂ level of safety and service to the citizens of town we see this as a very viable option,â said Buena Vista Mayor Duff Lacy. âWe lookÂ forward to the combined efforts of Chaffee Fire and the Town to provide for the citizens of Buena Vista.â
