entitlements and entitlement reform. despite the fact we know it s the holy grail, what walden did really looks like political pandering. it s a way of getting out there saying yop the seniors to get mad at me even though we re the party that cries budget reform, don t touch seniors. it doesn t smell good. but we know what he s doing. it s not that changing the way social security does is somewhat unpopular. it s really unpopular. they ve tested this every which way from sunday, and he s out there saying don t do it. it s very unpopular but so is tinkering with medicare too which were republicans were all for. this thing in some ways might hurt republicans credentials in trying to reform entitlements. we saw in the obama health care law, republicans said president obama is trying to cut $716 billion from medicare. then republicans assume that in their own budget. on top of that you have this and that hurts them i think. they really did. the other obviously we re
hospitals who said theyio have it and private insurers that are getting paid more than medicare and putting it for health care for poor people as obama does or for budget reform as the republican budget reform does, they should give it back to the hospitals and private insurers. the broad sort of overarching narrative of that critique to, the thing that strikes me about it is when paul ryan and george w. bush did a major drug benefit expansion in the 2000s, they paid for it by putting it all on the deficit. they didn t pay for a dime or dollar of it. then democrats came in and said we re not going to do that anymore. they said we re going to pay for all of it. the initial house democrat proposal would have been a tax on rich people, but a lot of republicans said that s irresponsible. if you re going to do a health care reform, pay it it out of the heblth care system.
attracting youthful voters, in terms of the excitement of sarah palin? is this candidate going to attract that same kind of excitement over time? i think there are a lot of parallels to sarah palin in the sense that he is exciting, is he young, he is attractive, is he energizing the base. both the conservative base and tea party base which is really important. is he a fresh face. so i think those are the positives. and then on the plus side for ryan, i also think is he more substantive than sarah palin. he has more accomplishments. there is clearly more intellectual rigor with him. he understands domestic policy much better. i think this is smart pick in the sense that you get the best of sarah palin which is energizing the base. you also v. a really smart guy and policy wonk who understands the significant issue of our time long time budget reform. best of both with paul ryan. you are presidential his torn. can you tell us how many other vice presidential candidates in the past have
