whether a deal was in fact imminent or whether the two sides that harry volunteered going to something? it really feels like they are getting extremely close. we re already getting these rumors that perhaps maybe three people in the leadership has signed off and we re waiting for boehner. we re getting a little bit of signs they are closing in and getting closer than we heard earlier today. i think the desire really is to solidify the deal tonight. having been up here for years, i can tell you that is a very heavy lift getting legislative language and getting the budget analysts and getting everybody on board. they have to brief the members of their caucus. it s very heavy lift in the hours that are remaining. either late in to to tonight or reid has everybody back earlier in the morning and they are
budget analysts out there and independent budget analysts about the ceo about the composition of what has been proposed versus what is in the, you know, house bill that passed a while back, hr-1, you know, this is consistent with those basic principles, and this notion that somehow we are offering smoke and mirrors and try to tell that to the democrats out there and part of what we have done is that we ve been willing to cut programs that we care deeply about. that are really important, but we recognize that give ten fen situation fiscally that we are in, everybody has to sacrifice and take a haircut, and we would be willing to do that, but what we are not willing to do is to say we will go out to cut another 60,000 head start slot, and we won t be willing to go
domestic discretionary spending. there are some cuts that are that we ve proposed that have to do with mandatory spending. these are real cuts. for example, pell grants. what we ve said is instead of being able to finance year-round pell grants so you can get a pell grant for summer school as well, we re going to have to cut that out. it s a little too expensive, and we want to make sure we preserve the levels for those young people or not so young people who are going to school full time during the year. and, you know, the way they are categorized means that those are called mandatory spending cuts as opposed to discretionary spending cuts, but they re still cuts. they re still reducing the size of government. they re still getting rid of those things we don t need in order to pay for the things that we do need, and i think that if you ask the budget analysts out there, independent budget
