Cape Fear River search: Crews search for kayaker who was pulled from boat in Buckhorn Dam near Moncure

The body of Danny Bullard was found near the accident site Thursday morning. On Wednesday, the Chatham County Operations Center received a call related to a person being swept into an undercurrent of the Buckhorn Dam on the Cape Fear River near Moncure. Officials said Bullard was pulled from the boat and was last seen floating in the middle of the channel. Chatham County Emergency Management, the Chatham County Sheriff s Office, the Moncure Fire Department, the North Chatham Fire Department, the Apex Fire Department, Lee County Emergency Management, Harnett County Emergency Management, North Carolina Wildlife Law Enforcement, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and First Health of the Carolinas all assisted in the search.

Hazard, Perry County experience flooding, mudslides

Streets and roads throughout Hazard, including North Main and near the Hazard Police Department, were closed at various times due to high water issues which began over the weekend. Hazard Herald photos by Katie Kelley Earlier this week, on March 1, many areas of Perry County experienced flooding and mudslides resulting in multiple roads being closed down. Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency on Sunday evening, Feb. 28, due to extremely heavy rainfall across the commonwealth throughout the weekend, and on March 1, both the City of Hazard and Perry County declared a local state emergency due to the flooding, mudslides and road breaks.
