Seacor Power survivor and first mate Bryan Mires spent two to three hours in the churning Gulf of Mexico before he was rescued.
“They asked if I wanted to go in, said Mires, who was rescued by a boat called The Cape Cod. I said no, keep looking, I’m OK.
The Cape Cod stayed out all night looking for other survivors of the capsized oilfield liftboat and didn t return to dock until about 10 the next morning.
Mires is the second survivor who testified in the U.S. Coast Guard s public hearing investigating the Seacor Power s capsizing in a storm April 13 about 8 miles south of Port Fourchon. Six of the crew s 19 members survived, six bodies were found and seven are missing and presumed dead.
