you mentioned hbu. there s pushback regarding that and whether it will be more difficult to get state accredit accredited. do you think there will be a message about the specifics of african-american young men and higher education? i think he s going to weave it in. the focus was on my brothers keeper. i don t know he ll be so blatant with it here. when talking underserved and people that don t have to easy and have to work harder, we know what the neems and phrases mean. angela, i have to get one point of personal privilege in here, my friend. did i see you in the march issue of marie claire. yes, i hope they send me the products i touted. we were just talking about that. i said i have to get in the fact that angela rie is doing big things, huge things.
i was terrified. for son dra mcneil that day would be the longest day of her life. just adrenaline. it makes you heart sick to see your boys up there. what unlikely turn of events would draw two boys to this terrible brink? the answer has everything to do with the special bond they share. 10-year-old john has autism. his brother james, 17, is devoted to his little brother. he was his brother s keeper because he loves his brother. because he had been in a position to watch out for his brother his whole life. part of caring for john means keeping him out of trouble. he has no fear of danger. his sense of adventure and lack of sense of danger. it s like having a 2-year-old.
how that works and how that keeps young men out of the gangs? right so the main idea behind becoming a man is youth engage in automatic responses in their behavior so programs like bam help youths reflect on their decision making process and think before they act. we have learned that that formula is working to reduce violence. you heard president obama use it as his brother s keeper s initiative. there was a participant that got to introduce the president and the mayor in chicago has tripled
when you look at the present industrial complex and the fact that the overwhelming majority of them are black and hispanic young men, the fact that the president would be so bold today to use his bully pulpit to talk about this important initiative that really not only helps to improve our communities but helps to improve the american society. that s an important point, reverend. to think it s kind of limiting to think of this as something which is just for african-american males or people of color. this is something for america. if people in this community do better, then we all do better. and i think that s what was so profound about what he talked about today. he really had some connectedness, that this affects us all and that we are all our brother s keeper. and i think what s also significant, he s got two 19-year-old martyrs on his watch during his time as president. he s got trayvon martin and jordan davis. so it probably made this idea
then you have to get the president and the first lady and magic johnson and make it uncomfortable to sell drugs and have a baby out of wedlock. really interesting with the white house senior and bill o reilly. the president issued a program called brothers keeper that is aimed to protect black citizens. juan gonzalez is here. what do you think, juan? there is a failed culture where the black men are
