Officers seized the 221 kilograms of cannabis, two vehicles and mixed currency. Although the value was not specified, the confiscated cannabis was said to be worth more than $1 million and the total find was valued at $1.7 million. Investigators believe the weed was destined for the U.S.
The seizure was the conclusion of the ongoing investigation “Project Prelude,” which involved about two dozen investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies, including AMPS, Canada Border Services Agency, Cornwall Community Police Service, RCMP, the Ontario Provincial Police and Homeland Security Investigations.
“From my experience in policing, joint force investigations are a necessity in combating organized crime,” AMPS Chief of Police Shawn Dulude says in the statement, touting the efforts of all agencies involved.
