Approximately one million contraband cigarettes, 53 pounds of cannabis and more than $25,000 in cash were seized from a property in the RM of Whitehead last week after a six-week investigation carried out jointly by the Brandon Police Service and Manitoba Finance’s Taxation Special Services Investigation Unit.

Five middle-aged men from western Manitoba were arrested last week in relation to a contraband cigarette scheme that could have resulted in a tax revenue loss of nearly $275,000 for the provincial government, police say.
The Brandon Police Service s major crime section and investigators from Manitoba Finance teamed up for a six-week investigation that revealed a group of Manitobans were smuggling tobacco cigarettes into the province. These cigarettes are not cigarettes that you could buy here in Manitoba under any circumstances, Ronald Bell, supervisor of the Manitoba finance taxation special investigations unit, told reporters Wednesday.

All Ireland winning minor and under 21 boss Sean Power is back as manager of the Waterford under 14 hurlers this season.

I have very fond memories from when I initially got involved in 2007 with regional teams and then the 2008 Sonny Walsh and the 2009 Tony Forristal. I had good times and made some great friends. At my core is Waterford hurling. I’ve said this time and time again, anything Sean Power can do to help Waterford’s development, he will do to help. And I mean that.
