Hartville wants to increase income tax to pay for road repairs

Correspondent Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021 KEY ACTION: Discussed a proposed 10-year, 0.25% percent income tax increase for road repairs, paving, and equipment replacement costs in the service department. DISCUSSION:  Mayor Cynthia Billings said village officials have received constant complaints from residents about the condition of village streets.  “It will be 16-plus years before all the roads in the village can be repaired and we can’t stop all the other work we must do (in order to) do roads, as some have suggested,” Billings said. “I think a small tax increase is the way to go. Something needs done.” The income tax would increase the village’s income tax rate from 1% to 1.25% and would generate an estimated $450,000 annually. Billings said the plan would also complete paving citywide within five to seven years.

New Music: Five Recently Released Works - Audiophile Review

New Music: Five Recently Released Works 36 In a year filled with so many problems it seems to make sense that one of mankind’s best friends are not forgotten. That is exactly what seventeen Nashville artists set out to accomplish – raise the profile on, you guessed it, dogs. Curated from some of Nashville’s canine loving artists, “Rock and Roll Over” was created while in total lockdown, making it perhaps even more improbable. Basically, this is a rock styled work, hence the album name. However, each track is devoted to a different breed of dog. Song titles include “I’m A Terrier,” “He’s A Poodle,” and “I’m Your Beagle.” I didn’t actually pay much attention to the CD jewel case before playing. I just jumped in and started listening. It therefore took me a few songs to realize a lot of devotion to dogs was being payed. The goal of this work is two-fold – one, help support the adoption of dogs to save them from being euthanized, and two, raise awareness

Dan Kane s 10 favorite albums from 2020 are an eclectic mix

The list reflects my idiosyncratic tastes, so maybe you ll find something here to enjoy yourself.  THE BOBBY LEES: Skin Suit. I discovered this garage-punk band from  Woodstock, N.Y., after my friend Chris Bentley booked them for an early-October show at Buzzbin in Canton. This record, produced by the estimable Jon Spencer, contains a bunch of rip-roaring originals and sharp covers of Richard Hell s Blank Generation and Bo Diddley s I m a Man.   ELLA FITZGERALD: The Lost Berlin Tapes. Someone unearthed this sublime radio recording of Ella and her fine piano-bass-drums trio in concert in Berlin in March 1962 and Verve released it. The vocalists warm, joyous and inspired performance is crisply recorded with a you-are-there vibe, and the song list is wondrous, including Hallelujah, I Love Him So, Cry Me a River, Summertime and Mack the Knife.

Filled With Sound: Bette Smith, Joe Bonamassa, Colin Hicks, Brian Lisik and more

Filled With Sound: Bette Smith, Joe Bonamassa, Colin Hicks, Brian Lisik and more Mike Greenblatt reviews a varied amount of sounds in Filled With Sound, from Bette Smith to Joe Bonamassa to Brian Lisik . and more! Author: Bette Smith’s The Good The Bad and The Bette(Ruf Records) ain’t no blues album. Although this bad Brooklyn bitch has belted the blues in the past, she’s rocking out now with a ferocity unmatched in any of her previous efforts. To that end, she’s got Drive-By Trucker Matt Patton co-producing, North Mississippi Allstar Luther Dickinson on guitar and Drive-By Trucker Patterson Hood on vocals. Considering DBT gave the world Jason Isbell, and they’ve already backed up Bettye Lavette, it’s a match made in honkytonk heaven. Sequenced to tell her story, it’s an album that could be made into a movie. Smith took to hard partying to counter-balance her childhood scars. “Whistle Stop” is the highlight, and she sings it as if her life depends upon it. Bett
