Planning to continue on southern Jamestown public safety building

Planning to continue on southern Jamestown public safety building The Jamestown Police and Fire Committee heard reports from local fire and law enforcement leaders on the need for a new building in southern Jamestown Thursday. Written By: Keith Norman | 5:11 pm, Jul. 22, 2021 The Jamestown Police and Fire Committee heard comments from fire and law enforcement officials Thursday regarding adding a southside public safety building. The topic was brought up for discussion during the 2022 budget discussions, although no money was included for the project in the preliminary budget that was passed. The committee heard from the chiefs of the Jamestown Police and Fire departments and instructed Jamestown city staff to continue planning for the project but did not authorize engineering work or efforts to locate a possible location for the facility at this time.

Committee Hears More on Proposed Public Safety Building

At this time, the Police Department has added 3,500 pieces of new evidence in storage in the past five years. Evidence is kept in five different locations in the city, which Edinger says reduces efficiency in their investigations. While the proposed space would cover most of what the Police Department and Fire Department would need it for, Chief Edinger says he wanted to keep the project and it’s costs modest for the city.
