The last 2023 Thursday Movie Night at the Bakery Nov. 30 will celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a filmmaker mixer at 6:30 p.m. and an Indigenous Film Showcase at 7 p.m., wrapping up a year of outreach efforts by the River Valley Film Society and the Fort Smith International Film Festival.
"For me, getting to the winners is probably the most satisfying part of the pre-festival process," says Brandon Chase Goldsmith, founder of the Fort Smith International Film Festival. "From February until May, you watch films trickle in as submissions. Then we witness the top of this year s class graduate to being official selections. Finally comes the hardest part, picking the best of the festival from all these wonderful projects.
When film fans count festivals on this side of Arkansas, there s one they might not know about. Ozark Media Arts Festival is in its 13th year in Springdale and in the spotlight today. The event for student filmmakers is collaborating with the Fort Smith International Film Festival and the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission to create a video contest announced Thursday.
