Mysterious crown artefact to sit proudly at Greengates Crossroads | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

A FASCINATING historic artefact discovered during roadworks is to be rejuvenated and permanently displayed after the improvement works are completed. The structure - a large metal crown - was unearthed by Howard Civil Engineering during the major ongoing restructuring project at Greengates Crossroads. It was found on the site of the long demolished Roebuck pub, while workers were creating a new entrance for Farmfoods last year. The construction firm handed the mysterious artefact to the Friends of Greengates Cenotaph community group and Secretary, Michael Frazer, got to working finding out about its origins. It turned out the structure likely had a rather important role to play in the area s history.

Media Museum announces re-opening programme | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

THE National Science and Media Museum has unveiled plans to re-open this spring - and a new permanent feature will re-create a popular Bradford photographic studio. The museum opens on May 19 with a new programme that includes the Belle Vue Studio exhibition in the Kodak Gallery. The photographic studio, on Manningham Lane, was widely used by people from the South Asian sub-continent, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe, who came to live and work in Bradford. The formal portraits, all taken on the same Victorian glass-plate camera, and often featuring props such as a a watch or briefcase, were sent to families around the world.
