The last time I went on a golf trip was in September 2019, when a trip to Southern California led us to San Diego for the Cubs-Padres series … which just happened to be, by complete luck, Nico Hoerner’s debut. So imagine my surprise (and delight) when, on Saturday, I found out on the 13th hole that Cory Abbott had been called up, with a debut likely during the only Cubs game on our Northern California itinerary. SB Cubs finish home stand with win over Fort Wayne May 31, 2021

The offense came to life for the South Bend Cubs (11-12) Sunday night, as they salvaged a series-split, beating the Fort Wayne TinCaps (10-13) by a final of 12-2.
Tyler Durna (4-5, HR, 4 R, 3 RBI), Nelson Velazquez (2-5, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Bryce Windham (2-4, HR, R, 3 RBI) all homered and after the Cubs scored just one run in the last two games, they broke out for 18 hits and 12 runs Sunday night.
Velazquez now leads the team with three long balls after his two-run shot in the third inning, and Windham’s homer was the first of his professional career.
