AN ORGANIST has retired after decades of service playing music to church-goers. Allan Park (whose name is spelt incorrectly on the certificate in the photograph) has spent 27 years at Askam Methodist Church but has been playing the instrument since he was a teenager. When I was 16, I was being taught the piano, said Mr Park, 85. At my grandad s funeral, they had no organist, so my dad said to me get on that organ. If you can play a piano, you can play an organ . Since then I have been on the organ. Mr Park, who lives in Barrow, was the church organist in the armed forces, which he entered in 1952, serving for five years.
