Shantiniketan: A team of scientists from Visva-Bharati University’s botany department has discovered a bacterium with the ability to boost plant growth and named it 'Pantoea Tagorei' after Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, a report in the media said.
Visva-Bharati researchers have identified a novel bacteria, Pantoea Tagorei, in Jharia coal mine soil samples. Named in honor of Rabindranath Tagore, this bacteria promotes plant growth, solubilizes potassium, replenishes nitrogen, and solubilizes phosphorus. The breakthrough, published in the Indian Journal of Microbiology, addresses the adverse effects of chemical fertilizers on soil.
