MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Democrats have new leader in the Georgia House, and he is hoping to bring more attention to issues in Middle Georgia. The party voted for Representative James Beverly to serve as House Minority Leader after former leader Bob Trammell lost his seat in the general election.
Beverly is serving his sixth term in the Georgia House and represents District 143, which includes Macon. HE says as House Minority leader he is preparing for some expected hurdles this legislative session. He says one of the first battles with Republicans will be over voting procedure and voting rights.

Georgiaâs 16 Democratic Party presidential electors did something at the State Capitol in Atlanta on Monday that has not been done in 28 years.
They cast all of the stateâs Electoral Votes for a Democrat, formalizing President-elect Joe Bidenâs victory in the state.
There were two votes taken during the gathering. The first was to elect Biden as president. The second was to elect Kamala Harris as the vice-president.
It was the first time since Bill Clinton was elected president in 1992 that Georgiaâs Electoral College votes were cast for a Democratic nominee.
âWe stand not for ourselves and not for our party, but for the people Georgia,â former House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, one of the electors, told the group. âIt is on their behalf that we took up this charge to be electors. It is on behalf that we are ensuring that the nation is led by a good man who believes in the soul of this nation.â
