Orchids and onions | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 6, 2021 ORCHID: To the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County for moving forward with a new strategic plan despite the ongoing pandemic. Boardman Center creates sensory room for students | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff report BOARDMAN Boardman Center Intermediate School is creating a sensory room to help meet the physical and social/emotional needs of students. Meridian HealthCare is partnering with the school to sponsor the $20,000 project, and also expand the project’s reach not only to include special-needs students, but to create a safe space for all students who may struggle with behavioral or mental health issues. Sensory rooms traditionally are a therapeutic place with a variety of equipment that provides special-needs students with personalized sensory input. The goal is to help these children calm and focus themselves and gain balance and motor skills. This promotes self-organization and positive change while also providing a safe space for students.

Dec 19, 2020 BOARDMAN Students at Boardman Center Intermediate School heard back from soldiers overseas who received their ornaments and letters. Staff Sgt. Andrew Wakemen sent a thank-you by email to the school after receiving more than 200 handmade ornaments and written letters as part of Operation Evergreen, the school district announced on Friday. “My name is SSG Andrew Wakeman and I am currently deployed with the U.S. Army. I just wanted to let you know that we received the bag of Christmas ornaments your school sent. I am not sure which class or classes put these ornaments together but I wanted to say thank you. The ornaments were a great addition to our tree and really helped raise the spirits of our soldiers,” the email states.
