Maui County’s state Senate delegation was united Monday in voting with the majority of senators to kill a bill that would have decriminalized the possession of up to 1 ounce of marijuana.
Although Hawaiʻi became the first state to legalize medical marijuana through the state Legislature in 2000, laws regarding recreational use have not changed. The Drug Policy Forum of Hawaiʻi board president says gubernatorial leadership is preventing the state Legislature from having progressive cannabis laws.
