ROCHESTER N.Y.(WHEC) Hundreds of local nursing home workers are expected to hold silent vigils Thursday, in an effort organizers say, is to call for reforms in the nursing home system.
The protests will be led by the healthcare union 1199SEIU at sports all across New York, including Monroe County.
A release says the demonstrations are part of a campaign to call on the reforms, and ensure revenue is spent on quality care for residents, rather than diverted to excessive profits.
Monroe County workers plan to meet at 11 a.m at the Brighton Manor on Blossom Road, and then again Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Wesley Garden on Upton Park. State Assemblyman Demond Meeks is expected to be a guest speaker at both events.
