Weve seen on environmental issues. Weve seen it on climate issues. There are always some executive powers that can be used meaningfully. What we need is something much bigger than that. The solution is political. I dont believe that this current circumstance is going to last that much longer. We have gotten so used to a far right Republican Party that is not willing to move on these issues and a divided congress. Thats not our whole history. It does not have to be that way. I think the American People are moving right now. I think you see a whole lot more movement in an aggressive direction. You look at the Public Opinion solidly ins moved favor of background checks and waiting. And an assault weapons ban and waiting periods and an assault weapons ban. Its only time before that leads to change. We have to work on the ground. We are hoping for instant gratification, but whats really going to change america is a whole lot of grassroots organizing, like the sparkling students those parkla
There are a lot of words you might expect a president to say over and over in the state of the yeun job address. Words like jobs, freedom, or if it is a joe biden speech, folks. The president last night chose a different word to be the theme of his remarks. He chose the word predecessor. A former republican president tells putin, do whatever the hell you want. My predecessor came off as they overturned. Hes the reason why they were overturned and he brags about it. My predecessor failed the most president ial duty that he owes to the american people. The duty to care. I think that is unforgivable. They told the nra that hes proud he did nothing when he was president. Many in this chamber want to take those Prescription Drugs away by repealing Affordable Care act. Im not going to let that happen. And we stopped you 50 times before and we will stop you again. Biden did not utter Donald Trumps name once during that speech. But he referred to his predecessor more than a dozen times. That w
[inaudible] well come to order. We are considering President Bidens nomination of julie su to be the secretary of the United States department of labour. I welcome her this morning. Let me get directly to the point. I strongly support miss sus nomination. She has been an excellent deputy secretary of labor for the last two years and i believe she will make an excellent secretary of labor into the future. I hope very much that you will be confirmed by the senate and we need her in her job as soon as possible. Let us be honest as we gather this morning, a debate over miss su really has nothing to do with her qualifications. No one can tell us with a straight face that miss su is unqualified for this position. In fact, she is extremely well qualified. This debate, really, has everything to do with the fact that julie su is a championing of the working class of this country who will stand up against the forces of corporate greed. That is really what this debate is about. Lets be very clear
