power is still out for more than 500,000 customers in louisiana and some do not expect it restored until the end of this month. so obviously it s a dire circumstance because forecasters are predicting heat of over 100 degrees in some areas. in laplace, louisiana, nadya, tell us how people are coping. reporter: well, alisyn, they just can t catch a break. you mentioned the heat advisory. people don t have power in laplace, louisiana, where they won t likely have power until the end of the month which means no air conditioning. we had another round of showers coming through. take a look, a lot of the homes in the area look just like this with blue tarps on them, with the roofs and shingles and everything missing from their homes that was ripped off in the storm. i want to introduce you to the house owner. she was gracious enough to let us come inside her home and talk about the damage. what have you been dealing with

thousands still without power, which may not be restored in some areas until the end of the month. the end of september. that s what some are looking at. there are also many questions about why a nursing home in louisiana was evacuated to a warehouse. seven people ended up dying there. our national correspondent nadya romero is in laplace, louisiana, for us this morning. when you look at those projections from the power companies, you know, september 29th for some parishes and beyond, it doesn t appear there s any meaningful relief in sight. reporter: yeah, poppy, there are some parts of louisiana that had their power restored over the weekend, and we were there when people were cheering the linemen on, so excited to just have their power back after seven days without having power. now it s day eight here in laplace, louisiana, and this is an area that was one of the hardest hit by hurricane ida. so we re outside of a navy distribution center.
