Agriculture and Resource Development Minister Blaine Pedersen announced the 2021-22 fishing season officially opens Saturday, May 15 in the southern division and Saturday, May 22 in the rest of the province.
“Manitobans are fortunate to have an abundance of trophy fisheries located throughout the province,” said Pedersen. “Recreational angling is a fantastic way to spend time with family while enjoying the outdoors.”

Some fish may still be spawning during the start of the angling season. Anglers are asked to protect fish stocks by releasing fish who are discharging eggs back into the water. By proactively releasing spawning fish, anglers will help protect fish stocks and sustain Manitoba’s fisheries.

Manitoba wants feedback on where agriculture needs to go

An online public engagement has been launched to seek feedback on the priorities and future direction of Manitoba’s agriculture and agri-food industry.
“Manitoba’s agri-food industry has demonstrated a strong commitment to Ag Action Manitoba and the next agricultural policy framework dialogues,” said Agriculture and Resource Development Minister, Blaine Pedersen. “We are seeking people’s experiences with the Ag Action Manitoba program and will collect data on key sector priorities for Manitobans.”
Building on previous engagement, the province is seeking Manitobans thoughts on the priorities and future direction of Manitoba’s agriculture and agri-food industry. WINNIPEG The Manitoba government announced $2 million in funding on Saturday for the new Hunter Education Fund. The fund, to be administered by the Winnipeg Foundation, will support the Manitoba Wildlife Federation’s efforts to educate, train and recruit hunters while promoting sustainable hunting and trapping in the province. “Manitobans are bringing new-found passion and appreciation for the world-class wildlife and fish resources this province has to offer,” said Agriculture and Resource Development Minister Blaine Pedersen in a statement. “This endowment will provide perpetual funding for hunter education and safety programming, and ensure that resources are available to sustain and improve this programming for generations of Manitobans to come.”
