Dr. Ricco Wright, the owner of the Black Wall Street Gallery, said he discovered graffiti smeared in white paint on the windows of the Mercer St. gallery on Monday and Tuesday, the 100th anniversary of the massacre, which occurred on May 31 and June 1, 1921. A third incident was discovered Wednesday, Wright said.
Black Wall Street Gallery in SoHo says someone smeared white paint on the gallery s glass facade in what the owners call a hate crime. The NYPD says it is investigating.
"We are neither shocked nor surprised that merely three days after opening on 26 Mercer Street, in celebration of our ancestors, that we would find a literal whitewashing of Black Wall Street on our front window," Black Wall Street Gallery Owner Rico Wright said.
