reschedules more shows
The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall continues to rearrange scheduled performances as its closure for the coronavirus pandemic continues.
The hall has announced that a concert featuring six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald scheduled for Feb. 13 will be rescheduled for a future date. Patrons have been asked to hold onto their tickets until the date is determined.
“Proud Tina: The Ultimate Tribute to Tina Turner” scheduled for March 9 will now be presented in Sarasota on Jan. 13, 2022. Rick Thomas: Mansion of Dreams has been rescheduled from April 8 to April 11, 2022. And legendary singer Johnny Mathis, who was scheduled to perform “65 Years of Romance” on April 14, will return to Sarasota on April 12, 2022.
Local hunk eyes continental glory
As Covid-19 continues to leave its ugly mark on the planet, a local model is hoping his beauty will bring some much-needed joy to Batswana.
27-year-old Edison Diako will jet off for Cote D’Ivore at the end of March to take part in one of the continent’s most prestigious male beauty pageants, Mister Africa International.
Should the Maun man – known as Black Muse in the modelling world – emerge victorious in West Africa, it would mark the pinnacle of a career that began six years ago.
“I have always seen myself as a muse from an early age. However, it was not until 2015 that I had my first professional gig as a model. I received an inbox from a photographer named Raymond Geoffrey for collaborative work and I learnt model etiquette, branding and styling from him,” regaled the dreadlocked Diako with a disarming smile.

Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative president Michele Des Verney Redwine.
The Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative, a nonprofit promoting using the unifying power of the arts to nurture inclusion and diversity, has been around since 2017. But itâs received a fresh burst of energy with the addition of several new board members recently, according to founder and artist Michele Des Verney Redwine.
âWe got some new board members in February, and we have done a lot of work since then,â says Redwine. That includes receiving their 501(c)(3) nonprofit designation, updating their branding and their website (suncoastblackartscollaborative.org) and, perhaps most intriguing, establishing a new series called the Arts and Racial Justice Panel series that will provide a forum for artists and arts and civic leaders to engage in dialogue.
