LANSING Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments to the Health Information Technology Commission, Mental Health Diversion Council, and the Michigan Workforce Development Board.
Health Information Technology Commission
Marissa Ebersole-Wood, Ph.D., of Plymouth, is the vice president of regulatory implementation and data governance for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. She earned her Ph.D., Master of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan. Dr. Ebersole-Wood is appointed to represent a nonprofit health care corporation operating pursuant to the nonprofit health care corporation reform act, for a term commencing Feb. 25, and expiring Aug. 3, 2022. She succeeds Thomas Lawrence Simmer, who has resigned.

Michigan’s network of economic development organizations come in all shapes and sizes, with different structures, different areas of expertise and different budgets. But, by and large, they share one goal: bolstering their region’s economy.

Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority named Kent County Commissioner Emily Brieve to its board of directors.
She will serve a three-year term in the general oversight of the airport alongside six other board members, including board chair Dan Koorndyk and vice chair Floyd Wilson Jr., who were reelected to their roles. Birgit Klohs was newly elected as board secretary.
“I’m honored to join the board of the Ford airport, which is a cornerstone of our region,” Brieve said. “The airport serves a critical role by connecting West Michigan to the world and by serving as an economic catalyst for our region. I look forward to contributing to the board as we continue to establish the Ford airport as an industry leader.”

One year after it was announced, the New Community Transformation Fund has secured $8.5 million from stakeholders looking to invest in Grand Rapids-area companies owned by people of color and is on its way to hitting the $10 million mark.
The venture fund NCTF, announced by The Right Place on Jan. 23, 2020, is aimed at boosting businesses owned by people of color in West Michigan, and it is nearing the first organizational milestone of raising $10 million, thanks to an investment of an undisclosed amount from Bank of America announced Jan. 26.
The $10 million figure is important, NCTF said, as it is the amount of capital raise necessary for the fund to make its first investments in businesses owned by people of color.
