Having been teased with the first hints of spring sunshine, many of us are now counting down the days until we can have a pint in a beer garden. According to the government s roadmap out of lockdown, Monday is set to be the date that pubs and restaurants can re-open to serve food and drink to customers outside. But you will not be able to go up to the bar, as table service will be mandatory and all social distancing guidelines will still be in place. COUNCILLORS have been recommended to approve Blackburn’s billionaire Issa brothers plans for a £5million new mosque in their home town despite nine objections. Most of the criticism relates to the danger of potential traffic created by the proposed Muslim religious and community centre on the site of Westholme School’s former infant and first schools. Mohsin and Zuber’s charitable Issa Foundation submitted a planning application to Blackburn with Darwen Council for the new building with a gold-coloured rolled copper dome and two minarets in December. As well as a prayer hall the new complex will include a community centre offering services to local people of all backgrounds including parent and child care, bereavement counselling and funeral services.
