So there I was, diligently working on this piece when a friend of mine calls shortly before dinner. Turn the news on, he says. We hang up. Holy spit, I say. Is this a Beer Hall in Munich, 1923, or, after I see that chilling photo of the barricaded door in the House of Representatives, with all those officers pointing their guns at the door (Capitol police? Secret Service? The romantic in me hoped one of them was a Congressman), Chile, 1973? We live, as the Chinese curse says, in interesting times.
