Facebook Share Hunters in New York killed more than 253,000 white-tailed deer during the 2020 deer hunting season, an overall 13 increase from the previous year, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s annual harvest estimate. The results, which are reflected in the DEC’s recently released 2020 White-Tailed Deer Harvest Summary report, bodes well for the agency’s statewide deer management goals and initiatives, according to Jeremy Hurst, the DEC’s big game unit leader.

Four incumbents and one challenger vie for three spots on board Village of Soldiers Grove SOLDIERS GROVE - For those living in the Village of Soldiers Grove, the April 6 ballot will offer four choices for three open positions on the village board. Incumbents Steve George, Vicki Campbell and Jerry Miller will be joined on the ballot by challenger Howard ‘Homer’ Arndt. Paul Nicholson, who is currently serving as village president, is also seeking re-election to that position and is running unopposed. Nicholson is the owner, operator and chief mechanic at Nicholson Motors. Nicholson has led the village through the last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, been instrumental in securing a $914,000 grant from the Community Development Public Facility Grant program to upgrade the village’s aging sewer system, and helped up upgrade systems for park rentals and camping in the village park.

NY hunter harvests highest scoring buck ever in New York State

A hunter broke records in six states in one day. New York resident has officially been recognized as having shot the largest non-typical buck in the state’s history. Even better, the organization that recognized the record also oversees multiple states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the six New England states. Phillip Pless shot the 18-point buck on private land in Niagara County in early November, New York Upstate reports. The buck recently received its official score from the New York State Big Buck Club and Northeast Big Buck Club. The buck’s antler’s received a final gross score of 221 3/8 inches and a final net score of 214 2/8 inches.

They were deciding where the trophy mount of the big buck that Pless shot Nov. 8 with his bow on private land in Niagara County would go. He explained they have a small home and this mount was special and would need some space.
