Heavy rain paralyses life in Abbottabad ABBOTTABAD: Heavy rain, which started in the wee hours of Monday, paralysed routine life in Abbottabad city. The 70 percent area of the Abbottabad city, mostly the cantonment localities witnessed heavy flood that caused long queues of vehicles on main Karakoram Highway and link roads. One to two feet of rainwater accumulated in Hassan Town, Bilal Town, Sir Syed Colony, Lambi Dheri, Thar Kana Chowk, Supply, Kala Pul, Stylo Street, Shah Zaman Colony, main PMA Road and even the Ayub Teaching Hospital was full of rainwater. The heavy rain damaged the Ayub Bridge at Havelian, causing diversion of all the traffic on main KKH highway to the old bridge and long queues of vehicles were seen on the both sides of the road.

Former undivided Bihar min dies at 90, condolences pour in | Ranchi News

Ranchi: Former minister of then undivided Bihar and Congress leader Bandi Oraon died at his home in Bagicha Toli on Itki Road late on Monday night from an illness. He was 90. Oraon was survived by his son Arun Oraon, a former IPS officer and former national vice-president of BJP, and daughter-in-law Geetashree Oraon, who is a Congress leader and former state minister. Politicians cutting across party lines paid rich tributes to Oraon, who was an IPS officer and took voluntary retirement in 1980 while he was posted as SP of Giridih to join politics. He was a four-time Congress MLA from Gumla s Sisai assembly constituency and went on to become the planning minister in then undivided Bihar in the cabinet of former chief minister Chandrashekhar Singh. Oraon also headed the Santhal Pargana Chotanagpur Area Congress Committee between 1997 and 1998.
