A Massaman-style Wallaby curry with poppadom and pickled cucumber will be this year s free wild food treat to attract visitors to the Northland Regional Council s Northland Field Days marquee. The council has transformed all sorts of pest animals, plants and even insects into edible field days treats over the years and for the past several events has forged a culinary collaboration with NorthTec cookery students. Ellie Beever from Athletics Nelson competes in the 400 metres. Beever won gold in the long jump. Nelson Athletics had reason to celebrate on Friday with gold medals to Ellie Beever in the 12 years Long Jump, Josephine Tappenden in the 13 years 400 m and Bella Cain-Townley in the 11 years 800m. Cain-Townley s form carried over into day two on Saturday, winning a Gold Medal in the 11 years 1500m. Richmond’s Bradley Kershaw was another standout in the 10 year-old boys’ categories, winning the 100m and 200m events before attempting a trifecta in the 400m on Sunday, while fellow sprinter Micayla Whiti won the 14 years 100m.
