The first glimpse of the “new Mini” came in 1997 at a BMW press conference in a hastily repurposed industrial warehouse on the eve of the Frankfurt motor show. At the end of the presentation, the ACV30 concept burst through a paper-walled crate on to the stage; in fire engine red, with what came to be new Mini styling cues of a white roof, mirrors and wheels, it looked good then and still does today.

STUTTGART, Germany, April 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The Supervisory Board of Daimler AG at its meeting on April 23, 2021 extended the appointments of management board members Martin Daum and Harald Wilhelm.
The appointments of Martin Daum (61), as member of the board of management for Daimler AG and Chief Executive of Daimler Truck AG, were extended until 2025.
Martin Daum has been a member of the Daimler AG management board since 2017 after serving as President and CEO of Daimler Trucks North America. Following the planned spin-off of a majority stake in Daimler Truck AG, Martin Daum plans to leave the management board of Daimler AG and to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer at stock market listed Daimler Truck company. The spin-off is subject to shareholder approval at an extraordinary general meeting of Daimler AG in autumn 2021.

More than ten million Minis have been built and sold worldwide since 1959 and almost as many of the new ones have been built in the 20 years under BMW (5.13 million) as in the previous 40 years of the original (5.38 million).
Yet the timing of the original Mini s launch could not have been better, arriving as a classless and affordable small car loved by celebrities, royalty and ordinary folk alike, who took it to their hearts just in time for the Swinging Sixties.
