Club donates more than £1,300 to cancer charity

NEWBURY MG Owners Club has donated more than £1,300 to Cancer Research UK following a series of fundraisers.
The club raised money for the charity during 2019 and early 2020, through raffles and a slimming group set up within the membership, which raised money by way of fines.
The club, the Newbury branch of the classic car organisation, realised that driving and social activities would be severely curtailed this year due to the coronavirus outbreak and that there wouldn’t be opportunities to raise funds to meet its £1,000 target for the charity.

Newbury Weekly News Over 80s Parcel Fund was literally bowled over this year when nearly 20,000 boxes of porridge were delivered in error to our offices.
The Magic Porridge Pot sprang to mind, but some quick-thinking and generous help from our delivery partner Swift turned the cereal crisis into a breakfast bonanza for local charities and schools.

NWN editor Frank Stillman in the late 1800s, it delivered either a packet of tea or a tin of tobacco to elderly people in Newbury leading up to Christmas – depending, of course, on whether they were a lady or gentleman.
Community rallies around West Berkshire Foodbank
Donations flood in as generous members of the community contribute to help those worse off

IN November 2019, West Berks Foodbank was operating with a team of around 12 people and received 3.9 tonnes of food in donations.
Fast forward 12 months, more than 90 people have signed up to volunteer for the charity and last month it received more than 18 tonnes of food to be given to people in need.
It has been a challenging year for all, but at the same time the coronavirus pandemic has given communities the opportunity to really pull together and support everyone in their time of need.
