A FORMER mill in Castle Cary will not be turned into houses after the district council won an appeal against the developer. Castle Cary (BMI) Ltd applied to redevelop the former BMI complex on the A371 Cumnock Road to deliver a total of 81 new homes for the town. South Somerset District Council turned down the plans in mid-2019, leading to the developer lodging an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate. The inspector has now ruled the development should not be allowed to go ahead – but the council will have to pay the developers’ legal costs due to “unreasonable behaviour” during the appeal process.
