The West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution to create a Legislative Council in the state under Article 169 of the Constitution. Of the total 265 members present in the Assembly, 196 MLAs voted in favour of the resolution while 69 voted against it.

The West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Thursday witnessed unruly scenes on Thursday with the TMC government tabling a resolution demanding repeal of the contentious farm laws and the BJP MLAs responding by walking out while chanting Jai Shri Ram .
Speaking after the resolution was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee amid vociferous protests by BJP lawmakers, Mamata demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must convene an all-party meeting to discuss the process of withdrawal of these laws.
Left parties and the Congress are also opposed to the farm laws. A resolution against the farm Bills passed by the Central government will be tabled in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on January 28. The resolution, under Rule 169 of the Procedures of Conduct of Business of the House, will be tabled by the West Bengal government.
A two-day special session of the State Assembly commenced on January 27 and would continue till January 28. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has expressed strong reservations against the farm Bills, had said the State Assembly would pass a resolution against the Central laws. States like Rajasthan and Punjab have passed similar resolutions in their respective Assemblies.

Union Minister Amit Shah will start his two-day visit to the poll-bound state of West Bengal on Saturday. The visit comes on the back of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Suvendu Adhikari tendering his resignation from the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. He is all set to join the BJP.
It was also learned from sources that BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya spoke to Adhikari on Tuesday for about four minutes wishing him on his birthday.
