There has been investment in housing, the community hub has been build and a personal pleasure is the closure of the Bellgrove Hotel. “But whie these issues are important, I joined the SNP for one main reason, so Scotland can be free again.
But, in 2016, that increased to 7323 votes, with Labour’s vote falling by 17.9%. Thomas Kerr, the Tory candidate, who is also standing again this year, was third in the constituency, where there was a 6.9% increase in votes for his party. Prior to 2011, McAveety had held the seat since the formation of the Scottish Parliament in 1999. Competing with Mason and Kerr for votes in Shettleston are Labour’s Pauline McNeill and Lib Dems candidate Matthew Clark. McNeill, who represented Glasgow Kelvin between 1999 and 2011, got back into Holyrood on the regional list in 2016. This year, as well as standing in Shettleston, she tops Labour’s list, ahead of Anas Sarwar, the party’s leader in Scotland.
New asymptomatic Covid test centre to open at the Forge for East End residents A NEW asymptomatic Covid testing centre is to open for residents in the East End. People who live in Barrowfield, Parkhead and Tollcross are encouraged to go to the Forge Shopping Centre from Sunday, April 3 to get tested for the virus if they are not showing symptoms. The centres have been targeted in areas across the city where case rates remain high despite lockdown measures. Car park D at the East End mall will be turned into a test centre, manned by Scottish Ambulance Service workers and will be able to carry out 400 PCR tests a day. Appointments will be available seven days a week between 10am and 5pm. They can be booked here.
