FDA announced the release of draft guidance entitled Action Levels for Lead in Food Intended for Babies and Young Children. The draft guidance is part of the Agency’s effort to reduce levels of heavy metals in food, especially in food consumed by babies and young children.
A New York federal judge dismissed a putative consolidated class action accusing Beech-Nut Nutrition Co. of violating a slew of consumer protection laws by including heavy metals in its baby food, ruling that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, not the court, has jurisdiction over the matter.
